Dave Ramsey uses a company called Zander Insurance. They look reputable. Not that you need anymore companies in the mix...

Asadesu, you're in an unique situation being overseas.

Lifelock, Trusted ID and a company called Debix all use a fraud alert to support their services. Its a federal law that requires banks to contact you for new loans if you have an alert in your credit file. The weakness of the entire situation is exactly as you point out, you have to play phone tag to verify.

My cousin is in Nashville, and he recently got offered Debix service. http://www.wztv.com/newsroom/top_stories/vid_761.shtml I did some exploring and it sounds like the key difference is that they have a phone based solution that helps you and bank communicate. Could be a good option for you.

I did some checking on Brenda's story about Lifelock. Looks like she's accurate. This story http://www.phoenixnewtimes.com/2007-05-31/news/what-happened-in-vegas/1
is the most disturbing to me. Says he still works as a consultant, but that was in May. Not sure of current status.

Brenda, do you have a specific source that indicates that Maynard is still working as a "consultant" like you claim? I'm not in their pocket here, but I also want to be completely fair.

Hello Asadesu... You are wrong. LifeLock's co-founder was forced out of his "official" role but he is still involved and receiving pay as a "consultant." When I check out a company, it put in the words "Lifelock scam." This exercise is a real eye opener. I was VERY disappointed because they spend millions on advertising and there is little to support the hype. I signed up with Pre-Paid Legal because if an identity theft event occurs, they have LAWYERS to help you and NO other identity theft plan has real lawyers to help you. I did exhaustive research as I was looking for a company I could refer my client to. I teach courses in workshops and have an on-line course on identity theft. It takes a lot for me to promote a company. I check (8) and Lifelock was at the bottom of my list. Do more research before you pay them more money monthly. Not many companies take to the to vet a company but as CEO of my own company, I take the time because no matter how smal the amount, money we pay these people has to have real value not hyped benefits. Don't drink anymore of their Kool-aide. If you aren't sold on Pre-Paid Legal and their legal network to help and back you (and they law firms are in every State)they can't do much for you if you need legal support with your identity theft situation. Even if you need a lawyer and you think their million dollar policy will help, keep in mind this is a reimbursement meaning you have to pay of of pocket first. And try to find a lawyer who has experience in identity theft. Not many lawyers in this country specialize in this area. So keep in mind when you get a lawyer, you will be paying out-of-pocket for some lawyers learning curve... and this could be very expensive up front costs.
